Defend the Michigan National Guard is Goal of 11th District GOP Resolution
Calls to Limit the Foreign Deployment of Michigan’s National Guard
West Bloomfield, MI; [Immediate Release]: The 11th Congressional District Republican Committee unanimously passed a resolution that calls for the Michigan Legislature and Governor to enact legislation to “Defend the Guard” by prohibiting the Michigan National Guard from being called into active-duty in a foreign war zone unless the U.S. Congress has declared war.
“Limiting the Michigan Guard to only be deployed to declared wars, and not to a never-ending string of violent undeclared conflicts, is the goal,” said 11th District State Committeeman Dennis Marburger. “Our Michigan Guard has as its primary purpose many valuable services that do not include being sent into undeclared foreign military assignments.”
The Resolution approved says, in part:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that ……………the Michigan Republican 11th Congressional District Executive Committee calls upon the Michigan Legislature and Governor to enact legislation to “Defend the Guard” to prohibit the Michigan National Guard from being called into active-duty in a foreign war zone unless the U.S. Congress has declared war pursuant to Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15 of the U.S. Constitution….
““Defend the Guard” will simply prohibit the Michigan National Guard from being called into active-duty in a foreign war zone, unless the U.S. Congress has declared war pursuant to Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15 of the U.S. Constitution,” said Marburger. “This protection of our serving men and women is popular with voters on each side of the aisle.”
