RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF MICHIGAN HB 4499
THE MEMBERS OF THE MICHIGAN 14th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT REPUBILCAN COMMITTEE SUPPORT THE PASSAGE OF MICHIGAN HOUSE BILL 4499, “RESTRICTION OF APPLICATION OF FOREIGN LAWS ACT.” WE URGE ALL REPUBLICAN OFFICE-HOLDERS TO SUPPORT SWIFT PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 4499.
Whereas, the Constitution of the United States is the supreme contract between the Federal Government, the States, and The People.
Whereas, our national and state Republican platforms affirm and uphold the supremacy of the United States Constitution as the governing law of the land. As articulated in the 2016 Republican Platform:
We are …the party of the Constitution, the greatest political document ever written. It is the solemn compact built upon principles of the Declaration that enshrines our God-given individual rights and ensures that all Americans stand equal before the law, defines the purposes and limits of government, and is the blueprint for ordered liberty that makes the United Stathes the world’s freest and most prosperous nation. “
Whereas, House Bill 4499 clearly states the intent of following Michigan law in legal proceedings and requires the US Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Michigan be applied as exclusive and determinative in adjudging any, and all legal issues.
Whereas, with passage of House Bill 4499, the guaranteed constitutional rights of our citizens
are fully protected. Passage of House Bill 4499 ensures the equal protections and liberties of our citizens under the law.
Whereas, House Bill 4499 has languished in the Michigan House Committee on Law Justice since it was referred there in April of 2017. Committee Chair Klint Kesto and committee members have failed to take action on this vitally important legislation.
Be it therefore resolved that we, the members of the Michigan 14th Congressional Republican Committee urge the Committee on Law and Justice to move forward House Bill 4499 by October 4 2018. Absent such action by the Committee on Law and Justice, we urge the Speaker of the House to reassign this legislation to the House Judiciary Committee for immediate deliberation and action. Further, we urge all Republican office-holders to vigorously support passage of House Bill 4499 in conformance with their stated oath of office to uphold and protect the constitutional rights of the citizens of Michigan.
