A Message from the Chairwoman

Dear 14th District Executive Committee Members, and fellow Republicans;

How things change!

When my September letter was published, no one knew that Congressman Dave Trott (District 11) would not seek re-election in 2018.  THANK YOU Congressman Trott for your service to Michigan and to our country!  

That said, the now open seat in our neighboring Congressional District 11 will create a chain reaction where current office holders and other new candidates throw their hat into the ring. We will see a spin off effect all over the state!  

So start vetting to find and recruit our best candidates.

Among many others running for that now open 11th District seat is Rocky Raczkowski, long time friend and long time supporter of the 14th Congressional District.  It is because of Rocky that I first got involved in politics.  Also, Lena Epstein, formerly running for US Senate, has switched and is now running for the the 11th District seat. For certain, more candidates will emerge as time marches forward.

The AMAZING 14th District Picnic held in Grosse Pointe Park!

We had a “YOUGE”’ number of sponsors and a great turn out at a beautiful venue on Lake St. Clair!  Congratulations to Fundraising Chair Carol Foster (West Bloomfield) and to her entire committee for organizing this event.  While the final financial details will be reported at our October meeting, it is safe to say this is the most successful event ever held in the 14th District.  We expect that the final report will show gross receipts just under $7,000 to support 14th District Republican candidates in 2018.

A special shout out goes to Justice Bob Young, Candidate for US Senate, for being our featured speaker at the picnic. We had 18 FABULOUS sponsors who are highlighted below in this newsletter. Thank you sponsors!

Many of us had the opportunity to attend the biennial MRP Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island.   Congratulations to Chairman Ron Wieser and the whole MRP Team for staging a wonderful series of events.  This Conference is known across the U.S.A. as one of the premier Republican events.  That reputation allows it to draw excellent speakers such as our own Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, Governor Eric Greitens (MO), Governor Matt Bevin (KY), former Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz and U.S. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA).  What a lineup!

We were surprised with the special  visit of “Trump” on the porch of the Grand Hotel.

 

What a HOOT!  Bob DiBuono is Comedy Central’s #1 Trump impersonator and I can tell you he is great!  He was brought to the Island Conference by the Michigan Trump Republicans and it is safe to say he was a hit!  I am told that through the date of this newsletter, his Island Conference social media influence has exceeded 50,000 hits.  WOW.

Robert Oestreich, State Committee member from Farmington Hills, was honored at the Conference, as were others from across the state, for their 2017 achievements as Party volunteers. Robert has lead three fundraising events for the 14th District. Congratulations Robert. Also, Cheryl Costantino, 14th District Vice-Chair and Harper Woods Mayor Pro-Tem, was among those recognized for their service to the Party. Congratulations Cheryl.

WAYNE BRADLEY - He’s baaaaaaaccck!  Our friend Wayne Bradley and his talk radio show “The Wayne Bradley Show” have returned to SuperStation 910 AM on Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Michigan House Bill 4499

“American Laws in American Courts”

Do you want to see Sharia law used in an American court to resolve a case?

Many of you have asked about this Michigan House Bill. This House Bill was assigned to the Law & Justice Committee Chaired by Representative Klint Kesto (R - District 39). Later, the Bill was sent back to its sponsor, Representative Michelle Hoitenga (R - District 102), for tweaking.

It is hoped that HB 4499 will soon be sent back to the Law & Justice Committee, be supported there and then sent on to Speaker of the House Tom Leonard, who has said he will quickly discharge it for a vote on the House floor.

Letters to the Editor Work

Ed Kohl, long time Republican activist and leader at Temple Shir Shalom, is frequently on the alert for “bashing” of Republican leaders and ideas by the liberal media.  As we encourage all members, do what Ed does------write to your local newspaper and call that talk show!

It does work.

This time, Ed wrote to the Jewish News about its attack on our President Donald Trump.   His letter was printed by the Jewish News and is reprinted below.  Way to go Ed!

14th District Executive Committee member profile:  Michael Parr

Mike Parr remembers when his high school government teacher in Battle Creek invested a whole day exploring the difference between conservatives and liberals in a series of debates among peers on certain topics.

“As a millennial I found myself vastly outnumbered  — something I’ve grown accustomed to — and came to love it,” Parr said. “The particular topic of abortion was especially heated. I found myself at the whiteboard drawing how an unborn fetus had its own unique genetic code and why aborting that genetic code constituted killing a unique individual human. Ever since then it’s been especially apparent to me that conservative values must be defended whatever the circumstances.”

Parr said he has been a conservative as long as he can remember.

“So I guess I've been a Republican all my life,” he said.

Parr’s formal relationship with the Party started after he graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in material science engineering and then went straight to work for Ford Motor Co. as a product development engineer.

“I immediately became a precinct delegate, though not in the 14th District at that time, and I have been ever since,” Parr said. “I love the political process of going to the county and state conventions. It’s fascinating to me that even within the Republican Party there are such stark differences in opinions. It’s not at all what I expected, but that's what makes it fun.”

Parr said there is a lot of opportunity to grow the Party, especially in the 14th District.

“We’re in a unique situation of having enormous minority populations that offer lots of potential,” he said.  “With the black and Hispanic communities we can bond with a strong sense of religious importance. There are also several local colleges and universities where conservative students need to be encouraged and fostered.”

 

At Ford, where he recently marked his 5-year anniversary, Parr has worked on the Focus RS, a 350 horsepower hot-hatch, and also the C-Max, a plug-in hybrid. He is currently working as an engine engineer. The company is helping him pursue further education with a master’s in engineering management at the University of Michigan.

Parr, 28, lives in Southfield with Kelly, his girlfriend of many years, and a 4-month-old golden-doodle named Aria.

“When I have time for it I enjoy all manner of shooting sports, running, photography, computer games and reading.  We’re looking at buying a house soon and one of the primary considerations is finding one that’s in the 14th District! All of this success I owe to the fantastic support network I had growing up, especially including two wonderful parents. Their lives of hard work, dedication and indiscriminate love and support have been invaluable in guiding me through life.”

Parr’s parents, Pam and Steve, are touring the country and maintaining the family vacation home in Dowling.

“I’m so happy to able to serve the Party and the people of the 14th,” said Parr, who hopes one day to run for office. “If anyone has anything they would like to talk about please feel free to call, text, email or carrier pigeon me at any time!”

Trump Unity Bridge Vandalized

Many of us have seen the privately funded “Trump Unity Bridge” at events all around Michigan.   It was even in Washington, D.C. for the Trump Inauguration festivities!  

Sadly, the Trump Unity Bridge was severely damaged--again.  Protesters in our streets claim their First Amendment right to free speech, but can’t seem to allow others that same right.

Democrat Rep. Brenda Lawrence “Votes for Us” in Washington

Your Democratic 14th Congressional District U.S. Representative Brenda Lawrence has been busy in Washington, D.C.  Here is a recap of several of her recent and shocking votes.   Her role in supporting the Democrat Party line and not Michigan values can be seen very clearly here.  Her votes often are like this:  think of a logical idea/opinion and then vote the opposite way.   After considering her positions, please feel free to call her office at 202-225-5802:

• HB 1873 passed 300 to 118 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law would expedite the approval process for utilities to trim/remove trees on power line right of ways located on federal property where there is “imminent risk of ...service disruption”.  Guess she likes trees more than electricity.

• HB 2842 passed 377 to 34 with Lawrence voting FOR.  SHOCKER.  This law allows states to subsidize up to 50% of a welfare recipient’s wages if the person gets a job.  Dems LOVE welfare payments!

• HB 3004 passed 257 to 167 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law increases the penalties for illegally re-crossing the U.S. border.  This will penalize, with up to two years of prison, anyone who was already deported or denied admission to the U.S. who then attempts to cross the U.S.border again.  Those who attempt re-entry after conviction of murder, rape, or kidnapping would receive a 25 year sentence.

• HB 1215 passed 218 to 210 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.   This law places limits on medical malpractice lawsuits providing care paid for by the federal government.  It would limit lawsuits to three years from the date or injury and would cap claims at $250,000 for non-economic damages.  It further limits payments to contingency fees paid to lawyers.  That last one is a Democrat no-no.

• HB 3003 passed 228 to 195 with (of course) Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law make cities ineligible for federal law enforcement and homeland security grants when they refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.  Hello?!  Brenda?  Are you awake?

• HB 2810 (Polis Amendment) failed 73 to 351 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law would have reduced military spending by 1%, excluding payments to military personnel or to military health programs.

• HB 2810 (Hartzler Amendment) failed 209 to 214 with Lawrence voting FOR.  This would ban paying for military gender transitions (except for mental health treatments).  

• HB 2810 (Rooney Amendment) failed 107 to 318 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This would have allowed service academy athletes to “go pro” before serving their military commitment.  

• HB 2810 (Perry Amendment) failed 185 to 234 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law would have ended the mandate for “climate change” reporting by our military.

• HB 2810 (Buck Amendment) failed 203 to 218 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This would ban the mandate to use alternate fuels in military services unless such fuels were cost-effective.  Huh?  Who is against being cost effective?  Oh, never mind.

Michigan Trump Republicans Event Continue

Michigan Trump Republicans is a group of Republican activists who supported Trump during the 2016 election cycle.  After his election, the so-called “resist” movement lead by Democrats literally blocked anything that President Trump proposed.  Then we have our friends inside the Republican party!  Anyway, MTR works to keep Trump’s base “engaged” so that they and the media see that the “resist” movement is not the only voice that voters hear.

MTR has already held events in all corners of Michigan including Rochester Hills, Novi, Royal Oak, Muskegon, Howell, White Lake, Hesperia, Lansing and Troy.. Each event has had between about 100 to over 300 attending!   These are high spirited pro-Trump events!

This picture is from a recent MTR event in Troy where over 300 registered to hear about Trump (ok, and maybe to have a some wonderful Polish food at the American Polish Center).

The owners of several of the local businesses, that merely agreed to host an MTR event, have had death threats (plural) to themselves and to their employees!  Local police have been needed at several locations.  Sad.  Don’t let anyone tell you that the extreme left is “peaceful”.  They are not.  

The “never Trumpers” continue to pound our President.  Just remember that these people NEVER supported Trump and likely never will.

We were surprised with the special  visit of “Trump” on the porch of the Grand Hotel.

 

What a HOOT!  Bob DiBuono is Comedy Central’s #1 Trump impersonator and I can tell you he is great!  He was brought to the Island Conference by the Michigan Trump Republicans and it is safe to say he was a hit!  I am told that through the date of this newsletter, his Island Conference social media influence has exceeded 50,000 hits.  WOW.

Robert Oestreich, State Committee member from Farmington Hills, was honored at the Conference, as were others from across the state, for their 2017 achievements as Party volunteers. Robert has lead three fundraising events for the 14th District. Congratulations Robert. Also, Cheryl Costantino, 14th District Vice-Chair and Harper Woods Mayor Pro-Tem, was among those recognized for their service to the Party. Congratulations Cheryl.

WAYNE BRADLEY - He’s baaaaaaaccck!  Our friend Wayne Bradley and his talk radio show “The Wayne Bradley Show” have returned to SuperStation 910 AM on Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Michigan House Bill 4499

“American Laws in American Courts”

Do you want to see Sharia law used in an American court to resolve a case?

Many of you have asked about this Michigan House Bill. This House Bill was assigned to the Law & Justice Committee Chaired by Representative Klint Kesto (R - District 39). Later, the Bill was sent back to its sponsor, Representative Michelle Hoitenga (R - District 102), for tweaking.

It is hoped that HB 4499 will soon be sent back to the Law & Justice Committee, be supported there and then sent on to Speaker of the House Tom Leonard, who has said he will quickly discharge it for a vote on the House floor.

Letters to the Editor Work

Ed Kohl, long time Republican activist and leader at Temple Shir Shalom, is frequently on the alert for “bashing” of Republican leaders and ideas by the liberal media.  As we encourage all members, do what Ed does------write to your local newspaper and call that talk show!

It does work.

This time, Ed wrote to the Jewish News about its attack on our President Donald Trump.   His letter was printed by the Jewish News and is reprinted below.  Way to go Ed!

14th District Executive Committee member profile:  Michael Parr

Mike Parr remembers when his high school government teacher in Battle Creek invested a whole day exploring the difference between conservatives and liberals in a series of debates among peers on certain topics.

“As a millennial I found myself vastly outnumbered  — something I’ve grown accustomed to — and came to love it,” Parr said. “The particular topic of abortion was especially heated. I found myself at the whiteboard drawing how an unborn fetus had its own unique genetic code and why aborting that genetic code constituted killing a unique individual human. Ever since then it’s been especially apparent to me that conservative values must be defended whatever the circumstances.”

Parr said he has been a conservative as long as he can remember.

“So I guess I've been a Republican all my life,” he said.

Parr’s formal relationship with the Party started after he graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in material science engineering and then went straight to work for Ford Motor Co. as a product development engineer.

“I immediately became a precinct delegate, though not in the 14th District at that time, and I have been ever since,” Parr said. “I love the political process of going to the county and state conventions. It’s fascinating to me that even within the Republican Party there are such stark differences in opinions. It’s not at all what I expected, but that's what makes it fun.”

Parr said there is a lot of opportunity to grow the Party, especially in the 14th District.

“We’re in a unique situation of having enormous minority populations that offer lots of potential,” he said.  “With the black and Hispanic communities we can bond with a strong sense of religious importance. There are also several local colleges and universities where conservative students need to be encouraged and fostered.”

 

At Ford, where he recently marked his 5-year anniversary, Parr has worked on the Focus RS, a 350 horsepower hot-hatch, and also the C-Max, a plug-in hybrid. He is currently working as an engine engineer. The company is helping him pursue further education with a master’s in engineering management at the University of Michigan.

Parr, 28, lives in Southfield with Kelly, his girlfriend of many years, and a 4-month-old golden-doodle named Aria.

“When I have time for it I enjoy all manner of shooting sports, running, photography, computer games and reading.  We’re looking at buying a house soon and one of the primary considerations is finding one that’s in the 14th District! All of this success I owe to the fantastic support network I had growing up, especially including two wonderful parents. Their lives of hard work, dedication and indiscriminate love and support have been invaluable in guiding me through life.”

Parr’s parents, Pam and Steve, are touring the country and maintaining the family vacation home in Dowling.

“I’m so happy to able to serve the Party and the people of the 14th,” said Parr, who hopes one day to run for office. “If anyone has anything they would like to talk about please feel free to call, text, email or carrier pigeon me at any time!”

Trump Unity Bridge Vandalized

Many of us have seen the privately funded “Trump Unity Bridge” at events all around Michigan.   It was even in Washington, D.C. for the Trump Inauguration festivities!  

Sadly, the Trump Unity Bridge was severely damaged--again.  Protesters in our streets claim their First Amendment right to free speech, but can’t seem to allow others that same right.

Democrat Rep. Brenda Lawrence “Votes for Us” in Washington

Your Democratic 14th Congressional District U.S. Representative Brenda Lawrence has been busy in Washington, D.C.  Here is a recap of several of her recent and shocking votes.   Her role in supporting the Democrat Party line and not Michigan values can be seen very clearly here.  Her votes often are like this:  think of a logical idea/opinion and then vote the opposite way.   After considering her positions, please feel free to call her office at 202-225-5802:

• HB 1873 passed 300 to 118 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law would expedite the approval process for utilities to trim/remove trees on power line right of ways located on federal property where there is “imminent risk of ...service disruption”.  Guess she likes trees more than electricity.

• HB 2842 passed 377 to 34 with Lawrence voting FOR.  SHOCKER.  This law allows states to subsidize up to 50% of a welfare recipient’s wages if the person gets a job.  Dems LOVE welfare payments!

• HB 3004 passed 257 to 167 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law increases the penalties for illegally re-crossing the U.S. border.  This will penalize, with up to two years of prison, anyone who was already deported or denied admission to the U.S. who then attempts to cross the U.S.border again.  Those who attempt re-entry after conviction of murder, rape, or kidnapping would receive a 25 year sentence.

• HB 1215 passed 218 to 210 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.   This law places limits on medical malpractice lawsuits providing care paid for by the federal government.  It would limit lawsuits to three years from the date or injury and would cap claims at $250,000 for non-economic damages.  It further limits payments to contingency fees paid to lawyers.  That last one is a Democrat no-no.

• HB 3003 passed 228 to 195 with (of course) Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law make cities ineligible for federal law enforcement and homeland security grants when they refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.  Hello?!  Brenda?  Are you awake?

• HB 2810 (Polis Amendment) failed 73 to 351 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law would have reduced military spending by 1%, excluding payments to military personnel or to military health programs.

• HB 2810 (Hartzler Amendment) failed 209 to 214 with Lawrence voting FOR.  This would ban paying for military gender transitions (except for mental health treatments).  

• HB 2810 (Rooney Amendment) failed 107 to 318 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This would have allowed service academy athletes to “go pro” before serving their military commitment.  

• HB 2810 (Perry Amendment) failed 185 to 234 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This law would have ended the mandate for “climate change” reporting by our military.

• HB 2810 (Buck Amendment) failed 203 to 218 with Lawrence voting AGAINST.  This would ban the mandate to use alternate fuels in military services unless such fuels were cost-effective.  Huh?  Who is against being cost effective?  Oh, never mind.

Michigan Trump Republicans Event Continue

Michigan Trump Republicans is a group of Republican activists who supported Trump during the 2016 election cycle.  After his election, the so-called “resist” movement lead by Democrats literally blocked anything that President Trump proposed.  Then we have our friends inside the Republican party!  Anyway, MTR works to keep Trump’s base “engaged” so that they and the media see that the “resist” movement is not the only voice that voters hear.

MTR has already held events in all corners of Michigan including Rochester Hills, Novi, Royal Oak, Muskegon, Howell, White Lake, Hesperia, Lansing and Troy.. Each event has had between about 100 to over 300 attending!   These are high spirited pro-Trump events!

This picture is from a recent MTR event in Troy where over 300 registered to hear about Trump (ok, and maybe to have a some wonderful Polish food at the American Polish Center).

The owners of several of the local businesses, that merely agreed to host an MTR event, have had death threats (plural) to themselves and to their employees!  Local police have been needed at several locations.  Sad.  Don’t let anyone tell you that the extreme left is “peaceful”.  They are not.  

The “never Trumpers” continue to pound our President.  Just remember that these people NEVER supported Trump and likely never will.
